Cara! I know her! This is such a cool picture because it captures her in an in between state... and you don't know what she is thinking or dreaming or wondering or imagining. and her skirt is pretty bad ass.

a dutch mother and daughter are sitting on a sofa watching barack obama's acceptance speech. to the unknowing eye they would seem like people removed from this situation, but they once lived in america, when george bush senior and then bill clinton were in power. they have known the influence of presidency. they have seen racism too. and now a black man has been voted into office and he can walk onto that stage holding his proud daughters hand. we cried a lot that day. congratulations america. change.

I'm so glad you got a photo inside the ballot booth. I regretted not capturing the momentous occasion on film.
I had a beautiful moment that evening, watching Obama's speec, in a barber shop in Brooklyn that I ducked into because I saw it illuminated with a few other passersby inside, heads cocked and rapty watching the mounted TV set.
Slowly the crowd grew as old, gay, black, striaght, white, young, lesbian, partiers, workers, etc., poured in from the streets.
The barber shop was bursting with this motley crue, which clapped and cheered when he thanked Michelle, and laughed when he said the girls had earned their puppy, and cried when he spoke of the 106 year-old voter who'd lived to see this day.
I'll never forget where I was for that speech. In a hair salon full of diverse neighborhood folk, united in their emotional stirrings over this incredible day.
